What is the best game to eat pie?
Because this is the opening line of our theme song, it’s the first question anyone hears on our acclaimed Best Games Ever podcast: a five-star show that some critics describe as “badger-like” as safe” and “shorter runtime”.
So we decided to use it on our first live podcast recorded at EGX London earlier this year, complete with an open mic for viewer suggestions. After several debates about Breath of the Wild, and whether pizza constitutes a pie, one viewer came forward with such a perfect suggestion that they won an award and our eternal gratitude.
We want to thank everyone who showed up, it was really special to see real people in these seats and we loved everyone’s enthusiasm for participating.
Be sure to let us know what you think of the show – if this is your first time listening, come back and listen to the previous episodes. If you have suggestions for topics, we’d love to hear them, so please comment below or post on our Twitter feed.
The best games you can eat pie, according to panel
The best advice comes from the audience, but here’s what our staff picked, idiots:
Tom – Breath of the Wild
Tom thinks Breath of the Wild is one of the best games ever, where you can cook and eat pies. I can’t actually blame him for that, but I do enjoy robbing him, so it didn’t win.
Connor – Spiderman 2
Connor entered based on a pizza delivery mini-game and immediately encountered two semantic but fatal flaws: First, handing out a pie is not the same as eating a pie. Second, pizza is not a pie (don’t write it).
Donaldson – Dead Rising and/or Final Fantasy (various)
Granted, Donaldson wobbles with the weeb options, and to be fair, both are brilliant pitches: Final Fantasy, which is deliciously realistic pie that looks delicious enough to make you lick your TV, and Death Rising, where you can not only Eat pie and wield it as a weapon. On this basis, he won the group stage championship.
Audience – Celeste
But the audience wins Celeste, a beautiful retro platformer where you collect strawberries throughout the game, which are baked into a big pie that everyone eats at the end. An insightful and valuable suggestion!
