“Look, it’s easy,” Jim said. “Review scores are not a flat scale, they are all elastic and separate.”
“What the hell are you doing?” Burns replied, tired of it.
Jim thinks for a moment and looks down at the squishy Meatball Marinara he bought from the worst Subway in Croydon (it takes a bit of work). “Okay, consider the food.”
“What do you eat?” Burns said.
“Yes,” Jim clarifies. “Like, the best thing you can get from McDonald’s—”
“Great delicacy,” Burns interrupted.
“Yes, so—” Jim continued, “Bacon is delicious,”
“No, just delicious,” Burns interrupted again.
“No bacon?” Jim asked.
“Donald bacon is so smoky that it overpowers the beef.” Burns, who has the authority of a man who has eaten more than one meal a day at McDonald’s on several occasions: likely the only one without staff people who do so.
“Okay okay,” Jim sighed, now regretting the whole conversation, and probably the decision to take the job with Burns, move to Croydon, all that. all. “So great tasting is 10 out of 10 McDonald’s, right?”
Burns nodded respectfully.
“So,” Jim continued, “if you go to a nice Italian restaurant and order risotto, you end up with really tasty food, but by Italian food standards, you know, it’s a solid seven. Nothing. Smells good, just in a different league. Seven out of ten meals from an Italian restaurant are better than a ten out of ten burgers from Donald. That’s the theory. Like Kane & Lynch 2: Dog Days It’s a broken 7, but The Last of Us is a rubbish 9.”
Burns thought about it for a few minutes before finally concluding: “No. I disagree.”
“Wait, what? Kane and Lynch 2: Dog days are great, but its inherent seven-tenths are undeniable, as for The Last of Us-” Jim protests until Burns interrupts again he.
“No, it’s not like that,” Burns explained, reassuringly. “I don’t accept Big Tasty as worse than the Tory porridge you get at Carluccios. Frankly, I don’t accept anything better than Big Tasty: Ronseal in Burgers.”
