As more and more connected objects move into our homes, it was obvious the furniture giant was on board. The well-known Ikea chain already offers various networked objects to simplify everyday life. Today the brand has decided to make everything much more accessible by implementing a simpler and more affordable application.

Matter, the new international standard for connected homes, will be Ikea compatible

She’s not very well known, but she’s coming soon to change everything. The standard, called “Matter”, aims to standardize the compatibility between networked home devices so that they work together regardless of the manufacturer.

Take the example of Apple using its own Home Kit system. With Matter it will be possible to use a HomeKit-compatible connected object with any other device of a different brand and ecosystem, such as Google or Samsung. Thus, the galleys are finished with limited interactivity.

The arrival of this standard is scheduled for October 2022, and it is the result of a partnership between almost all the major companies on the market such as Apple, Google, Amazon, Samsung and therefore Ikea.

A simpler connected home for everyone

In 2014, Ikea released an application to manage the various connected objects distributed in its stores.

By adapting to this new international standard Ikea invites us to discover their smart home Ikea application and instinctively use their new connected hub called DIRIGERA.

In addition, from the first half of 2023, the Swedish brand wants to integrate a function that will allow you to steer your connected objects anywhere.

Ikea has already announced that DIRIGERA can connect to all of their new smart objects.

Having multiple connected objects like speakers, lamps, or a fridge can make life easier. But when they have trouble working together, you kind of lose interest. Hence the goal of bringing them all together in a single standard.

For those who already have connected objects compatible with Tradfri, the current Ikea hub, don’t panic. The DIRIGERA hub works with all existing devices.
