Apple is now accepting pre-orders for the Vision Pro in the US. However, if you want to import the device to Germany, you have to overcome a few hurdles.
The time has finally come: Apple’s Vision Pro data glasses are coming onto the market. Pre-orders are available in the USA as of today, January 19th. The headset will be delivered on February 2nd. A market launch in other countries is planned for 2024. Those who are impatient can also import the Apple Vision Pro from the USA. But it’s not as easy as with an iPhone.
Apple has built some hurdles into the process, reports the US online magazine 9to5Mac. Anyone who clicks on pre-order on the Cupertino manufacturer’s US website will be asked to scan a QR code with an iPhone or iPad with Face ID. An app then scans your face so that the glasses fit well. To ensure the process goes smoothly, you should use an iPhone with a US iTunes account.
US iTunes account required
Either way, you’ll need this if you want to make purchases in Apple Music or Apple TV and download apps from the Vision Pro App Store. In instructions we will show you how to create a US iTunes account. A US address is also required in the ordering process, but this is not a major obstacle thanks to services like Borderlinx. However, it is unclear whether Apple accepts German credit cards as a method of payment during the ordering process. This could be a sticking point when importing.
Importing is also more problematic for people who wear glasses. These require special lenses from ZEISS in order to use the Vision Pro. Because the headset cannot be worn with glasses. However, ZEISS wants to see a prescription from a US ophthalmologist for delivery, Apple explains to 9to5Mac.
There are also hurdles in business
Once the headset is in Germany, further hurdles must be overcome. There are currently no other languages on the glasses apart from English. Likewise, according to Apple, some apps and content may not be available abroad due to licensing rights. However, this problem can probably be avoided by running a VPN directly on your router.
However, keep in mind that importing will be expensive. Because the Vision Pro incurs customs duties in addition to the purchase price.
