If you also go on a monster hunt in the Diablo 4 Open Beta, then it may well be that you will soon be swimming in legendary items. Many players have noticed that the drop rate for these rare items is surprisingly high.
Now a fan has turned to Diablo President Rod Fergusson himself and simply asked: Was this flood of items deliberately increased for the beta? The developer’s answer: Yes.

More legendary items than in the finished game
Of course, that explains why many players got the impression that legendary items accumulated too easily. Especially since in the beta you can only increase to a maximum of level 25. In addition, there are only two of the later planned four difficulty levels. Normally, higher levels of difficulty and levels always yield slightly better loot.
Rod Fergusson gives the reason for this adjustment that it would provide a richer gaming experience and allow for better testing
. Admittedly, a rather vague explanation. Fergusson probably thinks that we should get a good impression of how the game with legendary items will look later in the beta.
After all, swapping affixes and legendary traits with the help of the occultist is part of this gameplay experience. On the other hand, this of course falsifies the impression of how well Diablo 4 distributes its loot. And that’s something that tears open old scars for some fans.
Why does this make fans think? The drop chance of legendary items was already a hotly debated topic in Diablo 3 at the time of release. Back when the chance of a legendary item was lower than becoming a millionaire with a scratch card from the kiosk.
Only later did Blizzard raise the probability. That it will be exactly the same in Diablo 4 is of course rather unlikely. For this reason, some fans react quite sensitively to such trickery with the drop chances.
What do you think? Would you have preferred it if Blizzard hadn’t modified the beta in this way? Or do you think it makes sense as it allows more people to enjoy many legendary items sooner? In your opinion, how often should rare items drop in the finished game? Write it in the comments!
