The elf Solas was originally supposed to be so important for the new Dragon Age that it was even named after him: Dreadwolf. We now know that the name is instead Dragon Age: The Veilguard and Solas doesn’t even seem to be there at all, at least initially. not really our main goal to be.
Instead, we take on the two cruel elf gods that Solas accidentally frees from their prison right at the beginning of the game, into which he then transports himself. Nevertheless, the so-called Dreadwolf still seems to play an important role in the story.
At least during our time playing The Veilguard we were able to find out more about Solas’ past. What surprised us most was that that we can actively influence Sola’s history or, better said, his actions.
In the video you can see for yourself how the exploration of Sola’s past takes place. But keep in mind that the video gives away a few small story details:

Dragon Age: The Veilguard – We travel into the past of the elven gods
Journey into the past
In The Veilguard, your character and his companion end up in the void. More precisely, at the lighthouse in the void. From here you can travel to the Crossroads, a connecting area that sends you to many places in the world via teleport mirrors (called Eluvians).
The Crossroads are also a large exploration area that you can explore during the course of the role-playing game. There are puzzles to solve, powerful bosses to kill and also Clues to Solas’ past.
At certain overgrown portals you can take a journey into the past and learn more about everything that happened during Solas’ rebellion against the other ivory gods everything happened. At a certain point, our heroine could even decide for herself how Solas would behave. To be on the safe side, we’ll put the exact decision in a spoiler box:
Warning: the following paragraph contains spoilers
In the short section in the past, we explore the laboratory of the elf goddess Ghilan’nain in the role of one of Solas’ agents. Here we find out that she has been experimenting with corruption and the darkspawn. Towards the end of the section, another agent of Ghilan’nain is infected with corruption and Solas rushes to her side. Here we can decide how the Dreadwolf proceeds: does he try to heal the agent or does he give her the coup de grace?
How important will these decisions be?
The past tenses are purely optional adventuresWe almost missed this side quest during our play session in Redwood, so we think it’s unlikely that these decisions will have a huge impact on the main quest.
But it would also be extremely surprising if the decisions had no effect at all. After all, we seem to be determining here whether Solas has previously acted in a violent or cruel manner or in an idealistic manner. In doing so, we are shaping the personality of our own antagonist, which should definitely have concrete consequences in some form.
We don’t know any details yet, but the possibility seemed incredibly exciting to us! What do you think? Let us know in the comments. In the box above you will also find our big preview of The Veilguard. We were able to play it for several hours and were pleasantly surprised.
