Sony is limiting PSN download speeds in Europe.
Sony Interactive Entertainment President Jim Ryan announced that starting today, from PlayStation Network (PSN) May be slower in Europe.
This decision was made to "protect access for the entire Internet community" as more and more people are now trapped at home. As a measure to prevent the spread of coronaviruses, countries around the world are implementing blockades and placing orders at home, which has led to a surge in Internet usage.
Sony also works with European ISPs to manage download traffic for PSN. In addition to slower download speeds, you may notice that downloads take longer to start. Although not specified by Ryan, this may also affect automatic downloads. However, this should not affect normal online playback.
Of course, Sony is not the only company restricting some services. For the same reason, both Netflix and YouTube have degraded streaming quality in Europe. Ryan did not disclose when these restrictions could be lifted.
Ryan added: "We thank the community for their support and understanding, and their contributions, as we take these steps to maintain access for everyone."
