In “Indiana Jones 5” Harrison Ford swings the whip one last time, then the story of Indy is over. Fans should not expect Shia LaBeouf to appear, as director James Mangold reveals.
- “Indiana Jones and the Call of Destiny” will start in German cinemas on June 29, 2023.
- Harrison Ford makes one final return in the 5th Indy Adventure, but Mutt Williams will not be seen aga in.
- However, we learn what became of Indy and Marion Ravenwood’s son, played by Shia LaBeouf.
When Steven Spielberg released Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull in 2008, the director was still smitten with Shia LaBeouf and cast him as Mutt Williams. Not only was Mutt a major character in the 4th Indy Adventure, it was also hinted that LaBeouf might one day succeed Harrison Ford.
But over time, LaBeouf’s star waned, he traded blockbusters for art projects or art-house films, and then scandals made LaBeouf universally unwelcome in Hollywood. So it’s not surprising that LaBeouf won’t be appearing as Mutt Williams in Indiana Jones and the Call of Fate.
In an interview with Entertainment Weekly director James Mangold revealed that while Mutt won’t be in the 5th Indy movie, we do get to know what became of him. So Mutt is not hushed up, after all, he is Indy’s son.
Since Mangold has promised that “Indiana Jones and the Call of Destiny” will not introduce an Indy successor, we can expect a round end for the cult film series in the summer of 2023. But whether Disney really lets the franchise rest or simply relaunches “The Adventures of Young Indiana Jones” for Disney +, the future will show.
