Indiana Jones and the Great Circle: More exciting details about the Indy adventure

Adventure, Circle, Details, exciting, great, Indiana, Indy, Jones

Now that Machine Games and Bethesda have finally let the cat out of the bag, more details about Indiana Jones and the Great Circle are appearing online.

Indiana Jones and the Great Circle is making big waves. The action-adventure from Machine Games was presented in Microsoft’s Developer Direct in the evening. But later, more exciting details emerge, including on the store pages where the game is now listed.

As for the story, we already know that the game is set between Raiders of the Lost Ark and Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade. The story description states: “Your journey takes you from the classrooms of Marshall College to the heart of the Vatican, to the pyramids of Egypt, the sunken temples of Sukhothai and beyond. After a break-in in the dead of night leads to a confrontation with a mysterious giant, you must set out to uncover the world-shattering mystery behind the theft of a seemingly insignificant artifact. Encounter fascinating characters as you forge new alliances and fight against familiar enemies. Use your wits and wits to solve ancient mysteries , and survive key sequences that demand everything from you.”

Apparently it won’t be a purely linear affair, but rather a mix of linear, story-based gameplay with open-area maps in which you can freely explore.

Technically, the game is apparently based on the latest version of the idTech engine, which Machina Games uses for all Wolfenstein titles. At least that’s what an attentive viewer could see from a screenshot from yesterday’s presentation:

Finally, there is also news about the whip, which will obviously play an important role in combat and movement in Indiana Jones and the Great Circle. In an interview on the official site, game director Jerk Gustafsson reveals that the developers went to the trouble of completely simulating the whip.

“Our main goal was to make it as useful and versatile as possible,” says Gustafsson when asked what players can expect from the whip. “Normally when you think of the whip, you think of a means of transportation that allows you to move around the environment by swinging and climbing. But when we started working on it, we focused primarily on combat because we knew that was the thing would be the most difficult part of the feature. It should work not only in combat, but also in combination with other important combat tools such as melee combat and using items in the world. We also decided to use a fully simulated whip, which from a technical point of view was a challenge, but we achieved the grippy and realistic feel that is so important to us.”
