The highly anticipated game Indiana Jones and the Elder Circle offers some additional information about its story and what to expect in general.
During the Xbox Games Showcase 2024, Indiana Jones and the Ancient Circle made a notable appearance, revealing never-before-seen gameplay footage and story elements. The event was followed by a special episode of the official Xbox podcast, where Game Director Jerk Gustafsson and Head of Production John Jennings shared more details with host Malik Prince. An article by XboxWire lets you learn a little more.
An authentic Indiana Jones adventure
In fact, the game’s story begins with an ancient artifact being stolen from the college where Indiana Jones works. Gustafsson explained that this theft leads to Indiana uncovering an ancient conspiracy related to the Great Circle Theory. This theory conjures up a mysterious arrangement of ancient sites around the world that are connected by a series of artifacts. To prevent enemies from getting their hands on these artifacts, Indiana must find them first.
This quest takes players on an adventure around the globe, starting at Marshall College and taking them to the Himalayas, the ancient sites of Sukhothai in Thailand, the Vatican and the Pyramids of Giza in Egypt. This concept of world travel, so dear to Indiana Jones, originated with an idea from Todd Howard, Director at Bethesda Game Studios.
A great collaboration
To ensure the authenticity of this adventure, the MachineGames team worked closely with Lucasfilm Games. Gustafsson and Jennings stressed the importance of this collaboration. It allowed them to access a wealth of information and resources about the character of Indiana Jones. They have watched the films many times, especially Raiders of the Lost Ark and The Last Crusade, to immerse themselves in the spirit of the films.
In fact, the developers also had the opportunity to explore the Lucasfilm archives, an invaluable experience for fans of the franchise. This in-depth research spanned films, comics and books. There are even replicas of Indy’s costumes on display, including his iconic fedora, made by the same hatter from the original films.
Renowned actor Troy Baker lends his voice and body to Indiana Jones in full performance recording, integrating voice, facial expressions and body movements. His interpretation aims to capture the essence of Indy, especially in his early cinematic adventures. The soundtrack was composed by Gordy Haab, known for his work on Star Wars Jedi: Survivor, which gave him a musical touch worthy of John Williams.
Unlike previous MachineGames games, which were known for their intense action, Indiana Jones places an emphasis on adventure and problem-solving. So, Gustafsson explained that the game prioritizes Indiana’s intelligence and stealth over excessive combat. The player must solve puzzles and avoid conflict, reflecting the more nuanced character of Indiana Jones.
The game is scheduled for 2024 on PC, PS5 and Xbox Series.
