Square Enix released its financial results for the third quarter of 2022 ended December 31, 21021, in which the company noted Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy Not as good as the company hoped.
In the company’s financial performance briefing, company president and representative director Yosuke Matsuda said that while it missed expectations, it planned to make up for the title’s “slow start”.
“The high-definition games sub-segment launched Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. in the third quarter. Despite high reviews, the game sold less than we originally expected at launch,” Matsuda said.
“However, our sales plan, which was launched in November 2021 and continues into the new year, has resulted in increased sales, and we intend to work hard to continue expanding sales to compensate for the slow start of the game.”
In other words, the company expects the additional sales to make up for the initial underperformance.
This is Square’s second Marvel game, the other being Marvel’s Avengers, and Square says it wasn’t as successful as it had imagined. However, many expected Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy to perform better. Its reviews are pretty good, we even called it one of the best drama games of the year.
Hopefully, when Square releases its next financial report covering the quarter ended March 31, the sales program it launched in November will show growth.
