Huawei is currently barely able to build new cell phones due to the US sanctions. Huawei is now making a virtue out of necessity and upgrading old cell phones if desired.

On new cell phones from Huawei you have to wait a long time in 2021. The company now has that Huawei P50 revealed, but the new top model will only appear in August and initially only in China. The US sanctions are currently making it difficult for Huawei to obtain suitable components for new smartphones. But necessity makes you inventive.
More memory for old cell phones
As Gizchina reported, on the sidelines of the P50 launch, Huawei announced an upgrade program for around 40 old cell phones – including the almost five-year-old Huawei Mate 9. Many of them will also receive an update to the manufacturer’s new Harmony OS operating system.
For a lower fee, Huawei will install new memory chips for you here. You can choose from modules with a capacity of 128, 256 or 512 gigabytes. A cheaper battery exchange is also possible in the manufacturer’s service centers, according to the report.
For now only in China
The program is initially only valid for the Chinese market. The prices for the memory upgrade start here at 369 yuan, which is the equivalent of around 48 dollars. It remains to be seen whether Huawei will expand the program to other markets. We asked Huawei Germany.
