Apple’s September event is history and there was plenty of new stuff to see. As expected, Apple is providing two Pro versions alongside the two “beginner versions”, namely the iPhone 14 and iPhone 14 Max. There are big differences between iPhone 14 and iPhone 14 Pro.

Design: A look at the front reveals Apple’s Pro models
The two Pro variants of the iPhone 14 are recognizable as Apple smartphones at first glance. You have to look very closely at the case to see the visual differences between the iPhone 13 Pro and iPhone 14 Pro. The clearest indication of the innovations is when you look at the front.
While the upper screen gaps known as “Notch” are disappearing more and more in the Android world, Apple has continued to build on them since 2017 and has only slightly reduced them over the years. But now the manufacturer is redesigning the arrangement of the front camera and Face ID system in the Pro variants.
From a continuous recess, two smaller ones, which are connected to each other by software, are leaked as before. When turning on the iPhone 14 Pro, they appear as solid black bars. iOS status messages appear here in the form of colored dots, for example when the camera or microphone are in use. In addition, the area is dynamically expanded if you receive a call, for example. Apple calls this “Dynamic Island”.
The two Pro models have another feature that buyers of the regular iPhone 14 variants have to do without: the ProMotion display with a refresh rate of up to 120 Hertz, and at 1,200 nits (maximum 2,000 nits) it is brighter than the Predecessor.
As with the iPhone 13 Pro, it is a variable refresh rate. This means that the iPhone can frame them depending on what is on the screen, turning them up and down to save battery power. For the first time there is now an always-on display on the iPhone.
Cameras
The camera hump still protrudes relatively strongly from the housing. Many users should have gotten used to this by now. Once the new iPhone is in a sleeve or in a case, the hump is hardly a nuisance. The first protective covers for the new iPhone models could be seen at the IFA in Berlin. Many more will follow soon.
While the iPhone 14 again has two optics on the back, the iPhone 14 Pro has three. We already know this difference from the iPhone 13 generation. But Apple installed new sensors, the resolution increases from 12 to 48 megapixels. A clear and long overdue leap.
The night mode has been improved, and the ultra wide-angle camera has been revised. This should also make macro shots much more detailed. The photo quality in low light conditions is said to have been revised for all three lenses. The new “Action Mode” allows even quieter recordings during action-packed missions – such as mountain biking.
Satellite emergency call and crash detection
As with the iPhone 14, the new satellite mode is also included. This can be used to make emergency calls and share locations, even if you are away from cell phone masts. Crash detection is also on board, which recognizes car accidents and automatically dials the emergency call.
