Some time ago, Electronic Arts announced a new single-player title based around Iron Man. Now a job advertisement points to a surprising engine.
We already know that EA Motive has been working on a new game for Marvel’s Iron Man for quite some time. Very nice, because EA has apparently discovered a new heart for single-player games, which is also proven by AAA productions such as Star Wars Jedi: Survivor.
What many EA titles had in common was the use of the Frostbite engine from EA subsidiary and Battlefield developer DICE. In the case of Iron Man, however, there seems to be a drastic change at EA Motive.
A fresh one job advert for the position of audio software engineer points out that Unreal Engine 5 is used for Iron Man. And that’s not just hinted at, it’s also explicitly mentioned in the ad: “We are looking for a highly qualified and experienced audio software developer to join our dynamic team working on the upcoming AAA video game Iron Man, which is being developed on Unreal Engine 5 becomes.”
This is quite surprising, given that Star Wars Jedi: Survivor was based on Unreal Engine 4 but was produced by Respawn Entertainment. But it’s a whole new step for EA Motive at least, as their previous titles like Star Wars Squadrons and the Dead Space remake were based on the Frostbite engine, which the studio has been continuously improving since their involvement in the single-player mode of Star Wars: Battlefront 2 used.
So it will be interesting to see what the now renowned studio will tease out of the engine. However, when the game will come onto the market is still completely in the stars. We last heard about the game in February when it was reported that the game was now in full production.
