For a long time we were skeptical as to whether Atomic Heart would appear at all – as early as 2019, Micha and Fritz in our problem children format doubted that this “Russian Bioshock” really existed, and if so, that it would keep what the first trailer promised.
But now Atomic Heart has been released, and even if it doesn’t offer everything that the trailers promised (for example, ray tracing support is still missing), the game definitely shows its strengths.
But they get lost more and more as the game progresses, because Atomic Heart leaves a lot of potential behind.
At the same time, Atomic Heart is at the center of a controversy. The Ukrainian Youtuber Harenko Even before the release, he accused Atomic Heart of spreading Russian propaganda and helping to finance the war against Ukraine. The Deputy Minister for Digital Transformation of Ukraine recently underlined these allegations and called for a cessation of sales.
So there’s a lot to talk about at Aomic Heart. And that’s what we do too: In the podcast, Micha grabs the two test authors from GameStar and GamePro

In terms of story, atmosphere and gameplay, the comparison with Bioshock naturally comes to mind. Micha, for example, the story premise of Atomic Heart, because it exaggerates a significant trend from the Soviet Union to the extreme and ultimately turns it into a nightmare. However, the game does not do enough with this premise, the story remains predictable.
However, we also have praise for the general atmosphere and the attention to detail of the development team, criticism for the dumb main character and the fake humor. And oh, at the »Open World«. Of course, Atomic Heart isn’t an open-world game, and it doesn’t need to be – but there’s the overworld that connects locations.
And it’s one of the worst worlds Micha has ever had to run through. yes, run Because fighting makes no sense.
After that, we turn to the controversy and allegations against Mundfish. We recap what we know so far about the game’s funding and discuss how communism, and more specifically the Soviet Union, will be portrayed in Atomic Heart. That’s where our opinions differ…
