The PC community on Reddit hasn’t been kind to Nvidia lately. This usually has to do with the low availability and high prices for the new graphics cards of the RTX 3000 and RTX 4000 series.
This time, however, Reddit users are complaining about the green team, without graphics cards playing a direct role. The reason can be found elsewhere: A survey that Nvidia uses to explore the mood of the community on various topics.
More precisely, it is a specific question that causes anger, concern, and sometimes humor: Would you pay money to be able to play without cheaters?

The comments below give a clear picture. For most commenters, the thing is clear: such a feature should be part of the basic functionality of every game. Anyone who has paid for a title can also expect to be able to play it in multiplayer without cheaters. So /u/Igot1forya writes:

The fear in the community is clear: If Nvidia actually plans such a payment service, another basic function of games would be packed behind the payment barrier. In the worst case, if you don’t pay, you will have an unbearable gaming experience. And the effectiveness of such a service is also repeatedly questioned in the comments.

Despite all the outrage about the survey: It is rather unlikely that Nvidia is actually already working on such a service that locks out cheaters for money. Surveys like these are often used to sound out the market and identify potential.
If many people answer yes to the survey, this can of course be a clear sign for Nvidia that setting up a payment service could be worthwhile. However, it is just as likely that no specific product will emerge from the question.
In order to further classify the survey, we also contacted Nvidia directly with a request for comment. As soon as we get a response, we will of course update the article accordingly.
Counter Strike: Global Offensive already has a payment model against cheaters.
In addition, Nvidia would not be the first provider to consider such a payment tool against cheaters. In Counter Strike: Global Offensive there is already the option to get rid of cheaters for money. The fact that the offer is well received is due to the history and the fair price model of the game.
Because while CS:GO used to have to be bought once, the game switched to a free-to-play model in 2018. At 14 dollars, the Prime Status with fewer cheaters is about as expensive as the basic game before 2018.
My opinion as an author: If Nvidia offers a similar model in free titles, the outcry should be limited. What the community is afraid of are probably subscription models, in the worst case for games that are already paid for. And rightly so, because anti-cheat must already be included in the purchase price there. Anything else would be a rip off.
