Remember Netflix’s Love, Death & Robots? No? Well, if you haven’t watched it yet, go watch it, because it’s one of the coolest animated anthology series out there, and season 4 is coming out very soon. In fact, it’s quietly become such a big win for Netflix that Amazon’s Prime Video service now wants a piece of the action… but by combining it with a big video game.
Via Deadline, we’ve learned that Love, Death & Robots author Tim Miller and Blur Studio (a well-known CGI company whose credits include countless video games and even some Hollywood blockbusters) are teaming up with Amazon MGM Studios to produce an animated anthology series based on video game universes from a number of different publishers. Oh, and it has a fitting title: Secret Level.

Deadline’s sources also revealed that the series has been in the works for some time and could be revealed as early as next week’s Gamescom Opening Night Live event, so stay tuned. As for the games that may be included in the anthology, it is reported that Spelunky and Amazon’s own New World will be included. In addition, PlayStation games seem to be part of it. Does this mean there is a slight chance of getting Anything All these years, Kill Zone? Let me get my cocoa bottle…
The number of episodes and the list of studios involved in the production are currently unknown. While Blur Studio is the lead production company for Love, Death & Robots (alongside Netflix), the entire production process is done in collaboration with different studios from around the world, which create different shorts for each season. Prime Video’s The Secret Levels could logically follow the same format, especially considering that almost every video game has its own visual identity and tone. In addition, it would be interesting to see certain IPs presented in a different light.
For Prime Video, Secret Level will be another great addition to its growing slate of adult animated features, which includes series like Invincible, Hotel Hazbin, and Batman: The Caped Crusaders. Meanwhile, Tim Miller continues to become a well-known figure in the gaming community, thanks to his involvement in films like Borderlands (which he partially reshot) and the Sonic the Hedgehog trilogy (as an executive producer).
