Prometheus and Alien: Covenant raised eyebrows rather than enthusiasm among many viewers and franchise fans. Both films by director Ridley Scott had little to do with the roots of the veteran sci-fi franchise.
And this was also reflected at the box office, where Prometheus and Alien: Covenant were only partially convincing. In recent years, however, the general perception of both films has changed noticeably. Since then, one or two fans may be wondering: What would the finale of the Alien prequel trilogy have looked like?
Is there still Prometheus 3 or Alien: Covenant 2 coming?
Maybe we could actually get an answer to that. Just a few days ago it was announced that Ridley Scott is now working on a new Alien film that has nothing to do with Romulus 2 by Fede Alvarez.
What this is about is currently unknown. But of course it seems reasonable to assume that Scott will finish telling the odyssey of the android David (Michael Fassbender).
At least that’s what Ridley Scott personally implied when he interviewed with The Hollywood Reporter the similar final scenes of Alien: Covenant and Romulus are addressed. Both films end with a spaceship setting off into the gigantic void of space.
Editor James Hibberd speculates that both films could even overlap in a new Alien film. Ridley Scott then discusses a potential sequel to Covenant and thus also to Prometheus:
Covenant is best suited for this [den Film fortzusetzen]: The heroine is located [im Kälteschlaf] and David has 2,000 colonists and alien eggs. This is the perfect starting situation [für ein Sequel].

Of course, this is not an official confirmationthat Ridley Scott’s new Alien film will be Covenant 2 or Prometheus 3. Of course, it would be obvious that the director would dedicate himself to a continuation of the story that he was never able to finish before.
There are still many questions left unanswered about Ridley Scott’s new Alien film. It is not even clear when the 86-year-old director will dedicate himself to this project and whether he will then personally direct it. Scott’s planned biopic of the Bee Gees is coming up in 2025, and he might also want to make Gladiator 3 then.
On November 14, 2024, Ridley Scott’s latest film, Gladiator 2, will be released in Europe cinemas. Actors such as Paul Mescal, Pedro Pascal, Denzel Washington, Joseph Quinn and Connie Nielsen are in front of the camera. According to reports, Gladiator 2 cost up to 300 million US dollars – so the upcoming historical epic has to make a lot of money in order not to make a loss.
