Gaming News It is one of the most beautiful video games of 2024! But “Les Fourmis” is not just a joke, but above all a very good mix of genres.
Ants is undoubtedly one of the most interesting video games of the month of November. It is an adaptation of the novel of the same name by Bernard Werber. It manages to modernize and make the real-time strategy (RTS) genre accessible and accessible with impressive engineering, without paying homage to the original material it is inspired by. Our video test.
Addictive gameplay
It took 24 years after the first video game adaptation (also a strategy game at the time) that the book was published The ants by Bernard Werber is being adapted into a video game. The latter was developed by Tower Five and published by Microïds and picks up the events of the first book. We play a scout ant, the 103,683rd, in third-person perspective with a camera close to the heroine. This is not enough to offer a low-impact narrative that is far from the standards of the original book, but is combined with an innovative gameplay proposal for the genre.
In fact, Tower Five wants to twist the codes of RTS by offering a formula that moves us away from the classic top view of games of this genre. In Les Fourmis, the ant is our computer’s mouse. Tactical and strategic missions require the player to constantly move to different locations. Build bases, give orders to her legions or even activate military power: the heroine is also there on the battlefield! And to control each antenna of our character, the exploration missions proposed in the title are ideal. We’ll tell you more about this in our video test at the top of this article.
A very accessible game for the genre
Beyond the effective principle of transforming the ant into a mouse, the game opens the door to real-time strategy in several ways. The single-player campaign, which lasts around ten hours at a time, is peppered with all kinds of tutorials
Tower Five initially developed Les Fourmis for an audience unfamiliar with RTS and an audience that primarily plays on consoles. It must be said that real-time strategy had its heyday and is still trying to bring it to PC today. The desire to export to consoles is well felt, with a pleasant handling of the controller.
Of course, it is also the technology of the title and its photorealistic graphics that contribute to The Ants being a very good game and a good surprise at the end of the year with its release on November 7th on PC, Xbox Series and PS5. An analysis that we carry out in more detail in our video test.
