It looks like Final Fantasy 16 will be missing something at launch – but you won’t feel bad about it

Bad, Fantasy, feel, Final, launch, Missing, Wont

final fantasy 16 Looks good, doesn’t it? Our very own Alex Donaldson gave the game great praise in the preview that went live yesterday, and (in an earlier preview) I have nothing bad to say. By all accounts, it will be a stunner. A proper PlayStation 5 masterpiece. The developers seem equally confident about the game.

Clive prepares to meet his creator.

Besides the great comments we’ve seen from the devs on the press tour (giving us gems like “Final Fantasy 16 will contain Geordies”), there’s also been some specific content in the big Game Informer cover article over the past few days Collected and running for a while: Final Fantasy 16 will not have a day one patch.

Now, you might be thinking this is a bit weird–off the top of my head, I can’t think of any major AAA game that came out in the past few years that didn’t have a day-one patch. Even The Legend of Zelda: Tear of Kingdom has one, so Nintendo isn’t immune to this novelty habit.

Director Hiroshi Takai noted in an interview with Game Informer that there are currently no plans to update the action-heavy role-playing game at launch. Takai noted that the game has been in development for so long (and with a lot of delays) that it’s in such a confident position that it doesn’t need a Day One patch. love that.

Into the unknown.

That doesn’t mean the game won’t get an update. For example, certain elements of a title may not resonate with the wider public when the game is released, and the developer may wish to tweak it. When your least favorite YouTuber finds some disgusting cheese to kill with one hit, the team might want to fix some difficulty options, or rebalance some ludicrous endgame bosses.

Whatever happens though, it sounds like Square Enix is pretty confident that you won’t have to download some staggering 9GB patch to start playing the game on day one, because this Final Fantasy – very different from Final Fantasy 15, for example – sounds like It will be done on launch.

Final Fantasy XVI will be released on PlayStation 5 on June 22, 2023. There’s no word yet on whether the game will be coming to PC or other consoles in the future (but it won’t be on other platforms for at least six months).
