Diablo IV is fast approaching and with it a huge community is preparing to dive heart and soul into the adventure invented by Blizzard. Only here are some players mad at a common practice these days: the Battle Pass.

If it does not work

Diablo IV finds itself in a rather odd situation: it manages to unite as many old-school players who glorified their first few hours playing the franchise in the ’90s as those of the new generation who have only recently discovered that they beat everyone. Blizzard wants to satisfy both audiences: The game promises to be time-consuming and addictive, but still relies on some very modern mechanics. Like a Battle Pass, for example.

We will therefore find a whole system of Seasons, but also Battle Passes divided into several categories. Firstthere is the free pass, which includes 27 levels with in-game rewards (like Smoldering Ashes, a special currency), gold, obols and more.

There will also be the Premium Pass, which will cost 9.99 dollars which will be included in the Deluxe Edition of Diablo IV. This also includes the tiers of the Free Pass plus 63 others (90 in total). All new levels contain only cosmetic items or platinum coins (which can be used, for example, to buy visual elements or the next Battle Pass).

The growls of the players

Finally we have… the Accelerated Pass, which costs $24.99 or will be included with the Ultimate Edition of the game. Here we talk about it You can pass up to 20 levels of the Battle Pass for faster access to cosmetic items without racking your brains too much to play and complete the related challenges.

On this subject, the pill seems to go down badly with some fans of the Diablo saga. “It has to stop”says a user Redditaccompanied by his phrase with an image of the Battle Pass. “For me it breaks the game, but maybe I’m just getting old. My first game was Ocarina of Time and I miss releasing full games.”adds another player.

Finally, another player also goes there with his comment…salty. “How do I get a ‘free pass’ on a $70 game? I’ve decided lately to skip Diablo IV and most other games. I had Zelda, but at least it’s a full game.”

Finally, others point to a practice that won’t go off the radar: As long as there is a clientele, there will be Battle Passes. “It’s not going to go away until people get into it, and a lot more people than meets the eye are still putting their money into this stuff.”

Do you think Diablo IV’s economic model is relevant? Will you give in to the Battle Pass or will you settle for the full version without the add-on?
