Given the variety of possibilities that Baldur’s Gate 3 offers, you’d almost think that the developers have thought of absolutely everything that players can do. However, one player discovered something about Gayle that the developers didn’t really expect.

SPOILER

This article mentions some details about Gayle’s condition and Raphael’s character. We will remain as vague as possible to give away as little important information as possible, but please note that we will be talking about some elements of Act 1 and Act 3.

A little reminder of Gayle

If you’ve played Baldur’s Gate 3, you’ve probably experienced some moments you never thought possible. The Belgian developers at Larian Studios have actually managed to write an RPG with so many possibilities that we have the impression that they have thought of everything. The Internet is full of examples where players have performed this or that task in completely different ways, without ever being prevented from doing so. However, in recent days, some players have discovered something about Gayle that has exposed the limits of the developers’ imagination.

A few minutes into the game after completing the introduction, you’ve probably already encountered it Gayle d’Eauprofonde. This unforgettable wizard is in fact one of the most common companions in the game, so you may even decide to start the adventure by playing him. If you talk to him a little and further his dedicated search, you will quickly discover that he has a somewhat… peculiar physical condition. As a matter of fact, When Gayle dies, a projection of himself should appear and ask you to resurrect him quickly if you don’t want dire consequences to occur. If you ignore his advice and allow two in-game days to pass after his death, you will be greeted by a short video focusing on his corpse. The latter begins to shine brightly beforehand Cause a massive explosion that ends your game. A very special aspect of this character for which several players have already paid the price. However, some clever people have tried to use this element to their advantage…

The developers of Baldur’s Gate 3 didn’t think of everything

If you talk to Gayle a little about this particular physical condition, you’ll quickly learn The range of the explosion is not infinite. In fact, the sorcerer himself states that one day he will find a place far enough away from any population to quietly explode when he can no longer control this “disease.” With this information in mind, some players have tried to challenge the developers’ intelligence. Once Gayle dies, it is actually possible to take her body and put it in anyone’s inventory (like with any corpse). A player then tried to add it to Raphaël’s inventory for a very specific reason:

I had Raphaël in camp because he wouldn’t talk to me near the destroyed village […]. I put Gayle’s body in his inventory before talking to him, then he disappeared.

Without giving too much away, if you’ve made progress in the game, you’ll know this Raphael spends most of his time on a plane of existence that is different from that of the normal world. In fact, he lives in the Nine Hells in the House of Hope. In theory, if you leave Gayle’s lifeless body to him, he should explode somewhere that won’t do you any damage, as well as eliminating a whole bunch of key enemies. Unfortunately, the player behind this Machiavellian plan was only welcomeda long black screen, then a game over as he passed the time after handing Gayle’s body over to Raphael.

Another player tried the same thing by leaving Gayle on another continent (which is possible in Act 3 thanks to an event that we don’t want to reveal), but he suffered exactly the same fate. While one would have thought that Larian had imagined this scenario and gotten away with it thanks to a little plot twist presented in a cutscene, Everything suggests that the players here were a little smarter than the developers. Given everything they were thinking about during the game, we can forgive them for this detail.
