The creators of A Way Out at Hazelight Studios are releasing It Takes Two, a co-op masterpiece for PC and consoles. In the imaginative and creative action trip you slip into the role of the married couple Cody and May, who lead a typical suburban life together with their daughter Rosie. But the relationship is in crisis and the couple wants to get a divorce. Reason enough for Rosie to turn them into dolls so that they can find their love again. The co-op adventure is more than well received by the international press.
We too have a lot to praise: For Sascha Penzhorn, It Takes Two is a wild, incredibly creative ride that plays excellently, always surprises and inspires. At the same time, he points out that the love story and a setting with talking animals and toys is not for everyone:

It Takes Two in the international press review
That is often praised
- Co-op in the foreground: The 3D platformer is a spectacular co-op adventure that picks up on a number of great gameplay ideas and relies on sophisticated mechanics. Whether together with the spouse, friend or sibling: It Takes Two takes the player on an entertaining journey. Communication and coordination between the players are just as important as that of the protagonists May and Cody. No progress is made without teamwork.
- There is a lot of variety on offer: Studio manager Josef Fares has before the release Promised $ 1,000 to every fanwho would get bored in the game. The reviews speak a clear language here too: there is no boredom and It Takes Two convinces with varied levels, boss fights and mechanics.
That is often criticized
- Unfortunate backstory: The main point of criticism is the story, which, according to reviews, is unnecessarily drawn out and whose background is described as inappropriate. As a result, It Takes Two feels unbalanced in some passages and loses the common thread.
Despite criticism of the backstory, the It Takes Two trailer shows why we’re stronger together:

Our sister magazine GamePro lobt It Takes Tow als “Fantastic Pixar-themed co-op adventure that overwhelmed us with its creative and fun gameplay ideas.”. Tobias Veltin writes in his conclusion:
“Wow! After the already very good A Way Out, I was expecting a great co-op game. But the force with which It Takes Two hit Dennis and me during the test surprised me. Because this co-op game is literally true almost everything.
The story is told in a charming and humorous way, in places very cleverly interwoven with the gameplay, and the characters are cool. Because the game can still surprise you with new mechanics, set pieces or other things even after many hours of play, I wasn’t bored for a single second in It Takes Two. […] It Takes Two is one of the best co-op games I’ve personally played and is already a hot candidate for my 2021 leaderboard. ”
Andrew King of GameSpot is also enthusiastic and describes It Takes Two as one of the best 3D platformer Super Mario Odyssey:
