The world of speedrunning has just experienced a major new event, as Doom II has just broken an almost thirty-year-old record.
Less than 5 seconds to make history
The speedrunning community is in turmoil as a legendary record has just been broken. A player named 4shockblast just set a new entryway level record Downfall II
A record almost thirty years old
Although the title of the video says otherwise, this run was done on Ultraviolence difficulty with all enemies present on the map. The term “pacifist” here refers to the fact that the player does not kill enemies due to their speed, as highlighted by PC gamer
This new record is a real achievement for several reasons. Firstly, because it breaks Thomas Pilger’s previous record from 1998, but also because 4shockblast has completely optimized its run here, with all the obstacles and their random nature. Thus, the player uses a number of techniques here, including the Sr50, a type of super Punish – or use the character’s momentum during his run to speed up his movements, as well as the inertial speed created by opening the various doors in the level. Put like that it may seem very simple, but in reality it is much less so: in 26 years, no one has ever clocked under five seconds.
