News culture “It was a mistake” The creators of Game of Thrones would like to change ONE thing about the HBO series
Typically, the showrunners of Game of Thrones don’t talk about their thoughts on the series. However, they made an exception.
The detail that kills
The Hollywood Reporter tells us a little more about the details that Game of Thrones showrunners David Benioff and Dan Weiss would like to change if given the chance. While they usually prefer to dodge questions about the HBO series, they made an exception. Despite the vicious comments surrounding the series’ eighth and final season, David Benioff and Dan Weiss explain that they would have liked to have changed something… from the first season!
This detail is what makes Murder the Jailer so important in the series. You don’t remember murder? You’re certainly not the only one. Played by Ciaran Bermingham, he enables Tyrion Lannister (Peter Dinklage) to escape. “It was a mistake not to bring Murder the Jailer back into the series“, explains Weiss. “We always talked about doing it“. The duo then add that the character could have returned as a tavern manager. “We realized too late that Mord might have owned a tavern. We could have had this actor in the background acting exactly like he did as a prison guard, but now as a small business owner. It was such an obvious idea, so simple to implement, so easy to achieve” they explain. We could have imagined many other points that would change, but not necessarily this one.
next project
If we’re hearing from the Game of Thrones showrunners again, it’s because they’re gearing up to release their new series, The Three-Body Problem, on Netflix. David Benioff and DB Weiss were actually hired by the SVOD platform to bring Liu Cixin’s novel, an essential work in the SF world, to the screen.

The story takes place in a world where scientists commit suicide after coming into contact with a mysterious think tank. Scientist Wang Miao and police officer Si Qiang investigate incidents that seem related to the case and will lead them to a reality very different from the one we know. As for the cast, we will find Benedict Wong (Spider-Man: No Way Home), Eiza González (Ambulance) or even John Bradley and Liam Cunningham in Game of Thrones. “The Three-Body Problem” will be released on Netflix on March 21, 2024.
