An imaginative Mesoamerican world, lovingly designed environments and bouncing fun like in the good old 90s: This is Itorah! Here you can find out everything about the charming action platformer from Germany!
German developers only master simulators? Itorah, the imaginative action-platformer from Kaiserslautern-based studio Grimbart Tales proves them wrong! When the eponymous girl awakens in the Mesoamerican culture-inspired world of Nahucan, Itorah is shocked to discover that she appears to be the only human alive. The rest of the population seems to have disappeared from the face of the earth.
However, Itorah is not completely on her own: fortunately, Nahucan is populated by strange masked figures, the Nahu. Armed with an imposing, talking axe, the heroine sets out to explore colorful forests, mysterious temples and rugged mountains in search of fellow human beings and, of course, her past. Her adventure quickly takes on far greater dimensions than she would have imagined at the beginning, because the world is threatened by an all-consuming plague.
Fans of indie legend Shantae will have Itorah smiling broadly as the mix of instantly eye-catching hand-drawn backgrounds paired with a diverse pool of attack and movement abilities evoke memories of the half-genius’ adventures. Itorah is similarly rooted in the golden ’90s era of 2D platformers and metroidvania.
Jagged jump passages and action-packed fights give each other the door handle; just smoother than back then! Master the ever-expanding pool of maneuvers to discover every corner of Nahucan. Of course, in addition to the usual voracious fauna, you can also expect impressive boss fights in which you have to prove your skills with the ax and your ability to react. One more bizarre and yet more fascinating than the other!
Itorah boasts a fresh, colorful Mesoamerican aesthetic that caught the eye during Devcom 2020. At the official Gamescom game developer conference, the German development team from Grimbart Tales was able to impress with its debut work and thus secured third place in the Indie Awards.
Curious about the action platformer with a fresh coat of paint? Starting March 21st, you can access Itorah on PC via Steam and GOG download and jump and fight like in the good old Game Boy days.
