There are films that were probably released long before the year in which some of you who read us were born and yet they are ones that, perhaps, you have heard of at some point because of how classic they have become over time. of time or the way in which they have ended up leaving their mark. A good example of this is A Clockwork Orangea true masterpiece that was directed by the great Stanley Kubrick.
This science fiction feature film was released in 1971 and now you have the opportunity to stream this adaptation of the novel of the same name that was written almost a decade earlier by Anthony Burgess. Of course, before sitting down to watch it, you better be well prepared for the spectacle you are going to witness because of how extravagant it is at many times, especially because of its high level of ultraviolence somewhat excessive.
What’s more, during the first bars is when the film focuses most on this detail until little by little the plot enters into details. Thus, the entire plot is narrated from beginning to end by Alex DeLarge, a rather wild young man who has two great hobbies: crime and listening to music by Ludwig Van Beethoven. Even so, it generally opts more for the former and that’s when you discover that saying that the film is violent is no exaggeration.
More than anything because when night comes is when Alex and his friends, the drug gang, dedicate themselves to beating up innocent people, stealing and trying to have sex with women without their consent. However, the leader of this group ends up being captured by the police, which leads him to be subjected to a mind control experiment. This is because the guards reach an agreement with him to grant him freedom in exchange for washing his mind in a somewhat brutal way.
For most of the film there are scenes that make you want to look away from the screen because of what is happening or that are capable of turning your stomach, especially when you realize that, despite of its setting in a future at an indeterminate time, are sequences that They could totally happen in real life., which makes them more disturbing. Of course, we must also recognize that there are moments in which the dialogues offer a comical touch.
At the time it was released, it was up for dozens of awards after receiving a good number of nominations at galas as prestigious as the Oscars, the Golden Globes and the BAFTAs. It is no wonder, since Stanley Kubrick’s work as a director is simply superb, as is the starring role of a very young Malcolm McDowell, which is why the film continues to be remembered more than half a century after its release.
