Paris, New York, London. World cities usually form a rather impressive open world backdrop. However, there is practically no video game in German cities with a freely accessible world. Now a Dataminer has in the game files of the Mafia 3: Definitive Edition discovered an unfinished version of a Berlin world.
Even if the world in the published video only consists of flattened satellite images and textureless house models, it is very clearly the capital of the Federal Republic.
The Berlin TV tower, the St. Marienkriche and the cathedral are clearly recognizable – real Berliners will surely discover even more sights. For example, we couldn’t make out the Brandenburg Gate.
Where does this game world come from?
It remains unclear how the Dataminer could enter the game world. In addition, for some reason, it appears to have only entered the Mafia 3 data with the Definitive Edition. Here, of course, the question arises of how such a large parallel world could just appear there and whether that happened by chance.
Possibly no map for Mafia
The obvious answer would be that maybe a DLC was planned that would lead Lincoln Clay to Berlin. Another reason is more likely: this could be the world of another game
Both the Leaker itself and the comments below and in the video Forum Resetera suspect the map for a title called “Rhapsody” behind the hidden world. The game never appeared, but was the project name of a project Hangar 13 was working on for a short time after Mafia 3 was released.
According to one Insider reports from Kotaku, players should take on the role of a Russian Jew whose parents were killed in a labor camp. This should then be won for an American espionage agency called Rhapsody and working as a secret agent in Berlin in the 80s.
Of course, with the challenge of getting from West Berlin to East Berlin undetected. At least the Berlin Wall cannot be seen in the discovered map of Mafia 3.
