Season 6 of Black Mirror has been out on Netflix since Thursday 15th June and it still warns us about certain dangers of technology. Especially with the first episode “Joan is Awful”. It follows the story of Joan as her life unfolds in a television show similar to her own life. The difference ? She appears much meaner than she is. It’s different with the other episodes, there’s always a close connection to technology, but there it’s much less present.

. Black Mirror creator Charlie Brooker explained why at the media microphone GamesRadar : “I was super conscious. There was some danger that people would label the show as a “technology sucks” show. And I found that a bit frustrating, partly because I’ve always felt like the show isn’t saying technology is bad, it’s saying the show is saying people are bad.

A very different season 6

The final season of Black Mirror takes a different turn compared to other seasons. In an interview with the media GamesRadar, Charlie Brooker reminds that “it was definitely a conscious decision to slightly modify the series”. And the TV show focuses a lot less on technology than the previous episodes, especially with the addition of the supernatural in two of them. The idea that Black Mirror is primarily about taking a scathing look at the not-too-distant future is dissolving, making way for a bygone era.

The episode “Beyond the Sea” is actually set in the 1960’s and tells the story of two astronauts, played by Aaron Paul (Breaking Bad) and Josh Hartnett (Pearl Harbor), trying to overcome an unspeakable tragedy. The second is the final episode “Demon 79” and revolves around Nida, a young shoe store clerk in her 70’s whose life is turned upside down after an event. As a reminder, Season 6 of Black Mirror was released on Netflix on Thursday, June 15th.
