There are only a few days left until the cinema release of one of the most anticipated films of the year: Alien: RomulusThis new installment of the saga promises to bring back the suffocating terror that characterized the first films, horrifying and delighting half the world. However, this film would not exist without the influence of one of the best horror video games of recent years.
In an interview with the German media GamesRadar
“At some point in 2016 I started playing Alien: Isolation by accident. I just wanted to see what it was, and suddenly I was terrified as I hid behind a table in the game with the creature lurking out there. That’s when I thought, ‘Wow, the movies haven’t done this for the franchise in a long time. ‘ This is just the pure terror that we could feel in the original film. (…) When I made Millennium: What Doesn’t Kill You Makes You Stronger, I thought that this would be the next movie I would make, and thank God Ridley [Scott] was kind enough to let me do it. That’s how it started, with Alien: Isolation.”
The Uruguayan filmmaker admits that it was after playing Alien: Isolation when he decided to bring that fear and phobia to the big screen with Romulus. Although the first films in the saga were a fundamental pillar, Alien: Isolation showed the enormous impact that video games can have, becoming references for other media such as film and television.
With this in mind, this new installment of the saga is expected to be a film full of horror and science fiction, where each member of the crew will find themselves completely helpless and in search of a safe refuge. Alien: Romulus will hit theaters around the world on August 15, 2024.
