All three games launching this month are killers in their own way, but the immediate star of the lineup is Jedi: Fallen Order. The third-person action RPG surprised many when it was first released in 2019. It’s an all-new story set in the Star Wars universe, mixing exciting combat systems, compelling characters, and beloved Star Wars sci-fi elements with galaxies and some different planets to explore. It’s an overall decent package, and well worth trying out for yourself as the sequel gets closer to release.

There’s also Axoim Verge 2, a metroidvania created by a single developer and released in 2021 to critical acclaim. Another sci-fi title, this time you’re at the feet of Indra Chaudhari, who receives a message urging her to venture to Antarctica in order to find her missing daughter. From there, adventures follow in a captivating cocktail of Metroid, Bionic Commando, and other Metroidvania icons.

And finally, Fallout 76. While the game launched underwhelmingly, it has undergone considerable improvement since its 2018 release, with numerous bugs fixed and major content updates to address issues and fill in the conspicuous absence of fans of the franchise’s Lost. As an online MMO, set in a legendary post-apocalyptic world that we’ve delved into for decades, it offers something very different from the rest of the series if you like it. It costs nothing this month and is well worth checking out. How bad could it be if John Carpenter liked it?

All in all, it’s a great month to start 2023, and all three games are worth downloading if you haven’t already. Especially if you’re killing time waiting for some of the bigger releases planned for later this month, you can really lose yourself in Fallout 76, Jedi: Fallen Order, and Axiom Verge.
