Jenna Ortega is a star in Hollywood in 2024. The one who had a 7-second cameo in Iron Man 3 in 2013 is now a leading actress. Before rediscovering her as Wednesday Addams in Season 2 of the series of the same name on Netflix, she tried out a completely different role. Unfortunately, the film ends with a bang.

Jenna Ortega’s appearance in Hollywood

Jenna Ortega, who turns 21 in May 2024, has already had a long acting career, mostly on television but not only. After cutting her teeth in Jane the Virgin and especially Stuck in the Middle, she landed a few supporting roles in movies and on Netflix before becoming the new Scream Queen of the 7th Art. In 2022, the North American actress starred in the horror films X and Scream. In the same year he gained fame for his role as Wednesday Addams in the series Wednesday (4 out of 8 episodes), directed by Tim Burton himself.

In 2023, she took on the role of Tara Carpenter in Scream VI before leaving the saga following the dismissal of Melissa Barrera. Despite it, 2024 should be a good year for Jenna Ortega, who stars in Miller’s Girl, Beetlejuice Beetlejuice, Klara and the Sun and finally Death of a Unicorn. Unfortunately for the actress, the first feature film mentioned wasn’t particularly well received by critics. Quite the opposite! Jade Halley Bartlett’s film is one of the year’s great critical and commercial disappointments.

The failure of 2024 for Jenna Ortega

Without further ado, the film that interests us at the moment is none other than Miller’s Girl, starring Jenna Ortega and Martin Freeman (Sherlock Holmes series, The Hobbit trilogy). Written and directed by Jade Halley Bartlett, This erotic thriller between a university professor and a young 18-year-old student caused controversy, especially because of an intimate scene who knew how to shock puribundant America. Controversy is a good thing as long as you have a strong cinematic argument and a creative vision to bring it to life.

The critics who have seen the work in question are almost unanimous. It’s a cold shower for Miller’s Girl, which boasts an impressive 29% on Rotten Tomatoes. Chrales Bramesco’s review of “Inside Hood” seems to sum up the general opinion of the film: “From one scene to the next, the viewer may find it difficult to tell whether this is a simply stupid film, an amusing specimen of half-wittedness “It’s a whimsy or a sneaky film.” Recording of a pretentious self-parody.”

Admitting failure cannot keep people waiting. Released in the USA at the end of January 2024, distributor Lionsgate has already transferred the broadcast rights in North America to Netflix. “Miller’s Girl” did not exceed the million US dollar mark ($889,522) when it was released in theaters. Fortunately, the SVOD market still offers hope for a return on investment. And it starts well. The film landed in the TOP 10 most watched films on Netflix in the US for the week of April 29th to May 5th, 2024.
