Jurassic World Evolution travels to the past. Return to Jurassic Park brings some new mechanics and a lot of nostalgia. We paid Dinopark a short visit.

What is better than "Jurassic World"? Of course, "Jurassic Park"! Steven Spielberg's masterpiece after Michael Crichton's novel "Dino-Park" has left a lasting mark on the film landscape and has burned into the memory of every movie lover with so many iconic images. In December, the Jurassic World Evolution park simulation finally gets the big content update that a Jurassic fan like me has wanted since the summer of 2018. Return to Jurassic Park is not just a collection of skins for your park buildings, but its own "What if …?" Story that takes place after the first movie in 1993.
Despite life-threatening experiences at the Dino Zoo, money bag John Hammond somehow managed to defy the classic trio of dr. Alan Grant, dr. Ellie Sattler and dr. Ian Malcolm for the first time since the start of the film series and even before "Jurassic World 3" again zusammenzutrommeln. That makes absolutely no sense in terms of history, but somehow the stars have to be shipped back to Isla Nublar. Why the scientists return? Well, to make it "right" this time. Do not ask too much questions, but that's not what Return to Jurassic Park is all about.
The Premium extension shines in and alongside their campaign to rebuild the island with tons of treats for fans of the original film trilogy. If you do not get warmed by the cool, steel-blue, high-tech image of Jurassic World, you can look forward to all the well-known buildings that adorned the face of the South American island in the 90s. In essence, the Visitor Center, Ranger Stations, and Co. function similarly to the base game, but often with minor adjustments to incorporate them into the circumstances of the first films.
Dinosaurs are therefore bred not on Isla Nublar, but the infamous plant B, Isla Sorna, and then shipped to the exhibition in the park. Playfully, this makes little difference, but makes a nice detail that makes the buildings more than mere skins. Even the unrealistically small enclosure of the raptors from the movie was thought. The clever little guys in Jurassic Park are no longer seated in the open field like their distant relatives.
After the Velociraptors roam free on the island after the events of the film, they must be promoted as one of the first tasks back to their secure area. And here's an interesting innovation that makes Jurassic World Evolution more convincing: new dinosaur behavior. Anyone driving into the corpses of aggressive theropods by jeep to stun, treat or photograph them must expect to be attacked. The days when the oh-so-dreaded T-Rex just furiously trudges around the cart are over. I can imagine that a ranger team who has been put out of action so quickly can become a problem in the park in an emergency.
As in the recent expansions, Return to Jurassic Park brings new dinosaurs to Islar Nublar: the small Procompsognathus and Pteranodons, which have a new aviary as a cool new architectural element. For the old dinosaurs, a Legacy Skin Pack is included to perfectly round off the Jurassic Park feeling.
