Kadokawa Corporation, the current majority shareholder of FromSoftware, the developer of “Elden Ring”, “Bloodborne” and “Dark Souls”, has confirmed that it has received a “preliminary letter of intent to acquire shares in the company” from Sony. However, it is said that it has not yet been decided whether the former company will sell the latter.
Reuters reported yesterday that talks between Sony and Kadokawa are “ongoing” and that if the business talks are successful, a deal could be struck “in the coming weeks.”

The latest news from Kadokawa comes in the form of a statement from CEO Takeshi Natsuno, which comes as the value of the company’s shares surged following the news, leaving no doubt in shareholders’ minds about a possible merger of the companies Drooling, this is something you’re bound to love at Financial Vulture School.
“There are some articles about Sony Group’s acquisition of Kadokawa Corporation (hereinafter referred to as the “Company”),” the note reads. “However, this information has not been announced by the company. The company has received a preliminary letter of intent to acquire the company’s shares, but has not yet make any decision.
“If there are any facts that need to be released in the future, we will make an announcement in a timely and appropriate manner.”
As such, this still seems to be a possibility in rumors of a potential acquisition, with Sony itself yet to comment on it as of this writing.
As we noted in our original report, if Sony were to acquire Kadokawa, it would be getting more than FromSoft. Danganronpa developer Spike Chunsoft, Octopath Traveler co-developer Acquire and RPG Maker developer Gotcha Gotcha Games are also owned by Kadokawa. As we write here, there are implications from an anime and manga perspective as well, considering this is another big part of what Kadokawa does.
