Just a couple of days separate us from the long-awaited premiere of a new Star Wars production. The Acolyte is Lucasfilm’s new project for Disney+ that will take us a few centuries in the past with respect to the main events of George Lucas’ franchise. In the series we will follow the adventures of a female group of characters and about it had talked Kathleen Kennedy.
The president of the company has addressed the furious reaction of a sector of fans who have not taken kindly to the fact that women are the ones who capitalize The Acolyte
“Working now within these big franchises, with social media and the level of expectation, is terrifying. I think [la creadora de la serie] Leslie [Headland] He’s struggled with it a bit. I think a lot of the women who come into Star Wars struggle with this a little bit more. Because the fanbase is so male-dominated, they are sometimes attacked in ways that can be quite personal.”
Despite the criticism that these productions may receive, Kennedy remains firm and assures that “the narrative must be representative of all people. It’s an easy decision for me.” This feeling not only represents the board, but is also shared by Leslye Headland.
«As a fan, I know how frustrating some Star Wars stories have been in the past. I have felt it myself. I maintain my empathy with Star Wars fans. But I want to be clear. Anyone who engages in intolerance, racism or hate speech… I don’t consider them a fan.(…) you think: ‘This is what people want from Star Wars. This is what people don’t want.’ That can make you lose your mind. During the creative process, I had to allow myself, as an artist, to fall, as long as I got back up. “That was the promise I made to myself.”
