With the PV5 WKNDR, Kia presents an unusual mini motorhome with off-road appeal. We take a look inside and assess the chances of market launch.
At the CES at the beginning of the year, Kia provided a preview of the upcoming, purely electrically powered transporter and van generation PBV (Platform Beyond Vehicle). The concept provides for a fixed driver’s cab – the rear part of the electric vehicles, however, can be adapted to the intended use using various modules.

For example, one and the same basic vehicle can be a delivery van during the day and converted into a motorhome at the weekend. Now the South Korean company is stepping up and providing as part of the SEMA Show in Las Vegas With the PV5 WKNDR, the first model in this concept series is presented, which has the prospect of series production within the next two years.
The car, which is just 4.7 meters long, is roughly reminiscent of the Toyota Kayoibako camper, which is also very compact, but takes a completely independent approach in detail. Coarse tires, an inconspicuously integrated lightbar and a beefy body including a raised chassis give the car an off-road appeal. The manufacturer describes the PV5 WKNDR as an “ideal escape capsule for extended nature weekends”.
In order to be able to stand and sleep in the micro camper, a pop-up roof is required. A maximum of two people can stay and travel in the mini motorhome. Thin solar modules are mounted on the roof to provide an independent energy supply.
There is one detail on the Kia PV5 that we have never seen in this form in any other motorhome: On the driver’s side you can pull out a kind of huge drawer cabinet. It gives you easy access to internal tools or other equipment while stationary.
Even though it may seem that way in the pictures, the “slide-out” is not suitable for living or sleeping like the compact Berg CX3 camping trailer.
Price and availability
The “WKNDR” is currently in concept status and you cannot buy it in this form. Meanwhile, Kia plans to officially introduce the PV5 as its first PBV model in the next year or two. We will introduce you to further camping and motorhome innovations here.
