You’ll often hear me complain that we need to stop adapting horror cult classics into video games. That is, we see Killer Clown from Outer Space: The Game Revealed live at Gamescom opening night last night. Little did I know that even though it was a 3v7 experience, the unexpected reveal of some weird looking Joker was exactly what I was hoping for.

The trailer for Catch the Killer Clown from Outer Space: The Game is here. Warning, there are a lot of clowns.

Killer Clown from Outer Space was an iconic horror movie from 1988. It’s goofy, quirky, and it’s all about some unwanted alien visitor who looks like a clown. If you haven’t seen it, you might think it looks silly, and in some ways it is, but that’s what’s so great about this movie; it doesn’t take itself too seriously, and it’s a kind of A fun horror experience that takes you back to the eighties.

Considering that, and the bazooka-style popcorn guns and cocoons that people end up trapped in throughout the movie, it makes perfect sense that Killer Clowns from Outer Space would be adapted into a video game that will be released in early 2023.

The trailer, shown at Gamescom ONL, brings Killer Klowns from outer space to the modern age. They look just as terrifying as they did in 1988, and now a whole new audience will get to know the team of clowns that prey on humans.

In the game, you can play as one of the seven brave citizens of Crescent Bay, or you can play as one of three killer clowns. As a survivor, it’s up to you whether you want to try to survive or prefer to disrupt the clown’s alien invasion.

Time to interfere with some human-harvesting alien killer clowns!

Killer Clowns from Outer Space: The game also features multiple locations with randomly generated maps, and plenty of tactics for Crescent Bay citizens and troublesome clowns to play. More specifically, the game’s Steam page says “Killer Klowns evolves online horror mode in a new way.” So, maybe it’s an asymmetric horror game that will bring multiplayer horror back to mine again Views…we’ll see.

If you’re looking to join the closed beta of Killer Clown from Outer Space: The Game, you’re in luck. Those eager to try the game as soon as possible can now apply for the closed beta through this type of form, which can be accessed from the Killer Klowns website.

Killer Clown from Outer Space: The game is expected to release in early 2023 for PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One and Xbox Series S/X.

That’s far from the case for a horror movie at Gamescom’s opening night scene. We saw Dead Island 2 finally re-revealed, Outlast Trials announced a closed beta, cosmic horror from the creators of Dead Space, and Callisto Protocol is coming soon.
