When will crossgen games and PS4 titles end releases? Sony seems to have made up its mind. The big sister of the PS5 still has some time before it is finally forgotten.
For now, faced with the shortage, Sony had no choice but to prolong the PS4’s existence. But all good things come to an end and that of the PlayStation 4 has been discontinued by Sony Interactive Entertainment.
In 2 or 3 years, the PS4, there will be more
During the recent presentation to its investors, Sony hinted at the future of its PS4 after more than eight years on the market. According to the slide below, By 2025, there would be no more first-party exclusive games on PlayStation 4, large maximum. Or in 3 years. As the chart shows, the manufacturer only expects revenue from its PS5 during this period, but also from PCs and cell phones. Two new fields in which the Japanese company intends to fully invest by releasing half of its games on these platforms.
Today PlayStation 4 sales collapse completely. We’re also seeing another phenomenon: some people don’t buy hits like Horizon Forbidden West unless they have a PS5 at home. In fact, with every PlayStation 5 shipment, we see games like Horizon 2 or Marvel’s Spider-Man Miles Morales topping the charts.
At the moment, future PlayStation exclusives from 2023-2025 on PS5 will only be listed as Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 or Marvel’s Wolverine or even Jade Raymond’s PC exclusives. The last crossgen exclusive we know of is God of War Ragnarök, whose release date has reportedly been leaked.
