The successful Kingdom Hearts series returns once again: On the occasion of the celebrations of the 20th anniversary of the franchise, Kingdom Hearts 4 was officially announced as the next main part of the series.
Kingdom Hearts 4 is now officially in the works. Developer and publisher Square Enix confirmed this this Sunday as part of a live stream celebrating the 20th anniversary of the franchise.
A video clip confirms the return of Sora, Donald and Goofy as they embark on a new adventure together. Square Enix itself speaks of “an epic new storyline” called Lost Master Arc.
The setting will be Quadratum, which in many ways resembles the Japanese metropolis of Tokyo. Square Enix describes Quadratum as “a sprawling city set in a stunning, realistic world”; nevertheless, it should also be a place that is said to have never been seen before in the Kingdom Hearts series. Strelitzia has also been confirmed as a new character.
However, it is still unclear for which platforms Kingdom Hearts 4 should appear and by when a release can be expected. In this regard, the company initially kept a low profile.
Detached from this, Kingdom Hearts Missing Link was also announced as a separate game. This should make Android and iOS platforms unsafe and offers adventures in the world of Scala ad Caelum from Kingdom Hearts 3. Here you compete against the Heartless, although the mobile spin-off relies on its own new story. A closed beta for this game is planned for 2022.
