The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom has a lot of really cool new abilities, but some players can’t help but miss one special ability in Breath of the Wild.
Spoilers for some of the abilities that unlock later in Tears of the Kingdom!
For me, one of the coolest surprises in Breath of the Wild is that Link’s abilities aren’t limited to the four abilities he can use, thanks to the Sheikah Slate you get at the start of the game. As you complete each dungeon, you’ll unlock powers associated with former champions, each with its own unique use. The same goes for Kingdom Tears, only now you’ll get a little spirit version of the new hero to walk around with you, and interacting with them allows you to use their powers. But even so, with all of Link’s new ways to get around Hyrule, many players can’t help but miss one particular power in Breath of the Wild: Revali’s Winds.
In Breath of the Wild, Revali’s Gale basically lets you jump through a whole bunch of climbs, lifting you into the air with a gust of wind. It’s easily the most useful of the four abilities, as it does speed up hill climbs. Turin has a similar ability in Tears of the Kingdom, but it pushes you forward. As one Reddit user shared on the Kingdom Tears subreddit, “You never realize how much you love something until it’s gone.”
In the discussion of Revali Gale, many players expressed similar sentiments, with one player even pointing out that “I tried to use Revali Gale more than 50 times in Tear of Kingdoms than they’d care to admit”. “Oh my god, yeah, whatever you think about this cocky jerk, but his powers are goats,” said another. Other users lamented the loss of long-range bombs, which have basically been replaced by Bomb Flower and Zona Time Bomb.
Honestly though, with all the wacky and wonderful creations you can make, there are so many ways to navigate the skies. Revali isn’t the only bird not to appear in the sequel, either, as a fan-favorite bird from Breath of the Wild appears to be missing as well.
