The celebrated “Knives Out” series goes into the third round in 2025. In “Wake Up Dead Man” Daniel Craig again slips into the role of the iconic detective Benoit Blanc – this time in a completely new look. The first pictures from the Netflix trailer promise a much darker tone than before.
A case like no one before: Blanc before his most difficult challenge
The first scenes from the new Netflix Tudum trailer give an exciting view of “Wake Up Dead Man”, the third part of the successful crime series by director Rian Johnson. The focus is on Benoit Blanc again, but this time everything seems different.
Instead of colorful shirts and linen suits, the detective wears a brown trench coat, dark sunglasses and is alone in a foggy cemetery. The new look is more reminiscent of film noir icons than the eccentric gentleman from the first two films.
Change of style with announcement: what the new look could mean
The fact that Blanc changes visually is more than a fashionable coincidence. The dark atmosphere and the setting indicate that “Wake Up Dead Man” will strike a different tone – more serious, mysterious, perhaps even more melancholy.
The comparison to classic cartoon detectives such as Inspector Gadget or the “pink panther” does not fall by chance: Blanc remains quirky, but at the same time has a heretone. The film seems to mix the familiar Whodunit format with new genre influences.
Top -class cast for a special case
In addition to Daniel Craig, “Wake Up Dead Man” shines with an impressive ensemble: Josh Brolin, Jeremy Renner, Cailee Spaeny, Mila Kunis, Glenn Close, Andrew Scott, Kerry Washington, Josh O'Connor and Thomas Haden Church.
This again relies on a mixture of Hollywood stars and versatile character screen – a proven recipe that has already made “Knives Out” and “Glass Onion” success.
“Wake Up Dead Man” should appear on Netflix worldwide in 2025. Further details, including the complete trailer and first insights into the plot, are expected at the next Netflix Testudum event on May 31, which will be broadcast in Germany on June 1st. Until then, it remains exciting how the new style will affect history and whether Benoit Blanc can solve his biggest challenge without going under.
