Launched in 2021, Knockout City will be discontinued after just two years. The developers have now announced that they want to pull the plug.
Velan Studios are responsible for Knockout City, which was originally released in May 2021. Since then, the business model has also been changed, but such a really big success no longer wants to come about with the title. For this reason, the developers now announced the upcoming end for the game.
Accordingly, the remaining season of the title will also be the last that will ever exist for Knockout City. The switch to a free-to-play model in June 2022 did not help the dodgeball title originally released via the EA Originals program.
Game Director Jeremy Russo now confirms that after Season 9, Knockout City’s servers will be taken offline; that will happen on June 6, 2023. At the same time, he praised the work and creativity of his staff and had warm words for the players who remained loyal to the title to the end. Ultimately, the challenges of a live service game are simply too great for the independent and smaller developer Velan Studios.
Season 9 is scheduled to start on February 28, 2023 and will last for 12 weeks. At the end there should be a final event before the servers go offline. Until then, there should be six more events that will bring new twists in terms of playlists. Due to the upcoming end of the game, real money purchases will be discontinued.
If you want to continue playing Knockout City after the official end of the server, you can still have some hope. Velan is working on a way to set up private servers. The feature will be made available via a standalone PC download, which would then allow players to host friends and other players.
