The great ball of annual financial statements has started. While waiting for Nintendo, Capcom or EA next week, it's Koei Tecmo who is speaking today and posting his best results since its creation in 2009 (after the merger between Tecmo and Koei).
As you can see in the table below, Koei Tecmo's turnover (367 million euros), operating profit (121 million euros) and net profit (132 million euros) are on the rise. Among the sources of satisfaction put forward, we find Atelier Ryza. Released in September / October 2019, the JRPG of the Gust studio sold 420,000 units worldwide as of March 31, 2020 (compared to 350,000 in the last census last December), thus becoming the best-selling opus in the saga . Sales of Romance of The Three Kingdoms XIV and Warriors Orochi 4 Ultimate were also communicated: 260,000 copies for the first, and 250,000 copies for the second.
Period | Turnover | Operating profit | Net profit |
---|---|---|---|
April 2019 to March 2020 | € 367 million | 121 million euros | 132 million euros |
April 2018 to March 2019 | 335 million euros | 104 million euros | 118 million euros |
What about Nioh 2, launched on PS4 on March 13? Koei Tecmo is happy to announce that he has signed a good start, particularly in terms of download sales, and adds that the first Nioh sold 580,000 copies during the fiscal year 2019/2020 for a total exceeding the 3 million since its release in 2017.
The firm is also satisfied with the performance of Persona 5 Scramble: The Phantom Strikers, action-RPG developed by Omega Force (Dynasty Warriors) and Atlus that Japanese players can discover on PS4 and Switch since last February. Note that the financial statement indicates that a localization of the title is planned, but this mention could concern the versions with subtitles in traditional Chinese and in Korean planned in Asia for June 18 next. Remember also that Koei Tecmo collaborated with Square Enix for the development of several mobile games (Dragon Quest of the Stars, Dissidia Final Fantasy: Opera Omnia …), but also with Nintendo on Fire Emblem: Three Houses and Marvel Ultimate Alliance 3, two titles released on Switch last summer.
Regarding future projects, Koei Tecmo is currently preparing the release of the RPG turn-based Fairy Tail (June 25) and Nioh 2 will see the arrival of three major DLC. Other titles not yet revealed are also in stock, including a new game Dynasty Warriors, teased last February.
