Gaming News Kojima Productions (Death Stranding) soon bought? Hideo is swinging and it’s not like that for now
In recent years, the trend has been towards takeovers of studios, even entire publishers: the biggest are even hungrier and are fighting a veritable battle for territorial conquest. Apparently Kojima Productions got some offers too…
New Horizons
We know: Hideo Kojima didn’t always have a good time at Konami. If the company allowed him to fly away with Metal Gear and be the personality he is today, the journey’s ending didn’t go very well: between the end of the hasty development of Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain and a pure and simple Silent Hills canceled, The Japanese designer has finally put years and years of loyal service behind him.
Apparently, Kojima was resourceful and quickly built his own studio, Kojima Productions, which became Death Stranding and who is currently working on several projects (first images of which have just been leaked). There’s even an Xbox exclusive in the mix!
Something that interests the biggest players in the market: not only to ask for games, but to absorb the whole company… and Hideo Kojima wouldn’t want that for the world.
money does not matter
In his own Spotify podcast (find details here), Hideo Kojima opened up about the takeover rumours: Yes, he’s getting tons of suggestions and seemingly staggering offers, but he’s not interested at all
Let me reiterate that we are independent. We have no affiliation and are not endorsed by anyone.
And every day I get offers from all over the world to buy our studio. Some of these deals are ridiculously expensive, but I don’t want the money. I want to do what I want to do. That’s why I created this studio.
So as long as I live, I don’t think I’ll take up any of those offers.
What matters to Hideo Kojima is independence and creative freedom. And given its turbulent history with Konami, those values are pretty relatable.
By the way, The Japanese developer takes the opportunity to deny a rumor that it was denied a particular game by Phil Harrison, the late Google Stadia boss.
The rumor that Death Stranding, apparently a sequel, was in the works to become a Google-exclusive title, which Phil Harrison ultimately turned down, is unfounded.
I never told Phil I wanted to do a Death Stranding sequel. I don’t know who got this information and where from.
in summary, Now all you have to do is wait patiently for the reveal of one of the mysterious projects… Maybe at the Game Awards 2022 next December?
