Hideo Kojima apparently keeps getting offers Kojima Manufacturing Co., Ltd. was acquired, but he insisted on remaining independent until his death.
If you’ve somehow missed Kojima-related news for the past seven years, back in 2015, he set up his own studio following his divorce from Kojima. Konami. His own studio, named after himself, has remained independent ever since, while Metal Gear Solid The creators have no intention of changing this. In the latest episode of his Spotify podcast, he made it clear that Kojima Productions will not be acquired (via Eurogamer).
“I started the company in December 2015 after I left Konami,” Kojima explained on his podcast. “It’s 100% out of my pocket – no funding from anyone. We are indie developers, we have no affiliation or support from anyone, and stay with everyone in the industry have a good relationship.
“”Every day I get offers from all over the world to buy our studio. Some of these offers are ridiculously expensive, but that’s not what I want for the money. I want to do what I want. That’s why I created this studio. So as long as I’m alive, I don’t think I’ll ever accept those offers. ”
I’m not exaggerating the “stay till he dies” thing. Considering how Konami ended up, it’s no surprise that Kojima wants to retain control of his company (though Silent Hill f looks good so far, still saddened by Silent Hills).
Regarding what’s next for Kojima, the game maker recently teased a bit nasty about his next project, which could be the much-rumored Overdose. Some gameplay from this particular project surfaced online earlier this week, though it could easily be one of the oddest ways to showcase the leak. You will see what I mean.
