In the past, Hideo Kojima worked on a Silent Hill project that was eventually canceled. And yet, during the presentation of his new game, references to him were scattered.
We know Hideo Kojima has a lot of games ahead of him. The most famous of these is undoubtedly Death Stranding 2, but it is not the only one. He also has an Xbox Cloud Gaming exclusive called OD in the works. He revealed it in broad daylight during the Game Awards 2023, but no gameplay excerpt was revealed. All we got was a technical demonstration with MetaHuman characters. However, everything indicates that a reference to the creator’s previous Silent Hill project was inserted into the presentation video.
A strange reference to the canceled Silent Hill project in the OD trailer
To put you in context, a few years ago Hideo Kojima had to put together Silent Hills. A demo called PT was provided and we can say that it had a small effect on players. Headliner and to everyone’s surprise: Norman Reedus. In short, it was promising, but unfortunately the project was canceled in 2015 and we haven’t really heard anything more about it. However, some fans were surprised to see references to him in the Overdose (or OD) trailer.
During the Game Awards 2023 ceremony, Kojima introduced us to OD, the famous project born from a collaboration with Xbox Game Studios. When our man came on stage, he first opened the door that can be seen in PT Silent Hills. Then, in the video dedicated to her new game, a very similar door can be seen reflected in the eyes of actress Sophia Lillis. But that’s not all. A secret message was also discovered by several users.
When actor Udo Kier appears, letters quickly appear in his mouth before disappearing again. You have to be extremely attentive to see them, but here are all of the ones you can see: A, T, A, M and I. Atami is the name of a city in Japan in Shizuoka Prefecture. If we write it in Japanese (静岡) and separate the two words that make it up, we literally get “Quiet” or “Silent” and “Hill”. It’s hard not to draw a connection to Silent Hill and therefore Kojima’s abandoned project. It remains to be seen what this means for OD.
A promising new game
Back to OD: Even though we haven’t seen anything from the horror game yet, Kojima’s description is delicious. He obviously wants to push the boundaries of fear. “OD will explore the boundaries of fear and what it means to overdose on fear as the boundaries and the film blur.”. If it offers us something in the same style as PT Silent Hills, there is reason to be afraid. However, you will have to be patient as we cannot announce a release date yet.
The other surprise regarding OD is its partnership with a well-known director: Jordan Peele. As a reminder, he is the director of Get Out, Us and Nope, horror films that were very successful. He explained that this video game project will be “terrifying.” As far as we know, we must also expect the presence of other big names. Her identity remains a mystery in its own right for now. Be continued.
