news culture “La Cage will be the first French series about the world of MMA” Franck Gastambide announces his new project on Netflix and it will hurt
Franck Gastambide has far more ideas: the actor-director has just taken on his new project, a TV series about MMA commissioned by Netflix. First information.
From dog training to the cinema
We can say that Franck Gastambide has come a long way. Basically, this Basque had nothing to do with cinema, having specialized in dog training from a young age, while earning a CAP security guard, before becoming a specialist in so-called “dangerous” dogs. His expertise will take him to the Rivières Pourpres film set to manage the dogs in certain scenes.
From then on, his friendship with Mathieu Kassovitz and, above all, his passion for directing will gradually lead him to fame: first he became an editor at MTV for Mouloud Achour, then he wrote numerous reports and short films. He will eventually be the origin of Kaïra, a series in which he also appears and which will make him known to the general public.
Since then, Gastambide has lived a real success story. His Kaïra web series finds its way to the cinema with a film adaptation (a premiere in France!) that he directs himself and in which he produces ever larger productions: Pattaya in 2015, Taxi 5 in 2018 or not yet validated in 2020 to mention the many films in which he simply stars. His latest acquisition is fresh Medellin on Prime Video, with the luxury of having Mike Tyson on the bill.
No worries, no hassles
Frank Gastambide is also passionate about MMA, a martial art that needs no introduction, and hopes to make his mark there as well. On Tuesday, he admitted he was filming a series for Netflix about the famous “mixed martial arts,” except that:
I have been passionate about this sport for more than 10 years. “La Cage” will be the first French series in the world of MMA.

Official details are still scant, but there is talk of adding some stars to the cast like fighters Cyril Gane, Salahdine Parnasse or Taylor Lapilus. Likewise, the MMA specialist account “La Sueur” explains that Geogres Saint-Pierre, the iconic face of the discipline of Canadian origin, will also be present.
We will of course wait for confirmations from the director or Netflix: In any case, the latter announces a release date for 2024 on the famous VOD platform.
