Last Oasis was released on Steam on March 26th in Early Access. As in Conan Exiles or Ark, players can fight for survival together in a dangerous game world.
Players show great interest: Last Oasis has created its own little hype and is currently one of the top sellers on Steam. However, the release did not go smoothly.
Last Oasis is struggling with server problems: Players often cannot connect or are thrown out of the game. The indie developer Donkey Crew is aware of the problems and has been working on the servers in the past few days.
In a YouTube video, producer Lucas Stannis provides information about the reasons for the trouble. Accordingly, back-end problems ensure that client requests, for example when trying to connect or traveling between oases, do not always reach the server. Work on fixing these bugs.

Players react with negative ratings
Many are annoyed about the server problems: While Last Oasis' s steam reviews were "mostly positive" shortly after the release, the curve now slides into the "balanced" area. Only 52 percent of the reviewers give the thumbs up. Many critics cite Last Oasis server problems as a reason for a thumbs down.
Others criticize the balance: Last Oasis focuses on PvP between groups of players. They come together in clans and build large mechs called "walkers". Beginners, and especially those who are traveling alone, are too often the victims of powerful groups, critics say.
But there are also numerous advocates: Many are happy about the special story of Last Oasis. The Steam ratings also include numerous players who praise the combat system, which relies on physical hit boxes and defined attack and defense directions.

Last Oasis mixes up the survival MMOs with mechs
In Last Oasis, like Ark or Conan Exiles, players have to deal with a hostile environment. To do this, they build wooden 'Mechs as a mobile base, collect resources, manufacture tools and weapons and fight against AI opponents and other players.
Why do you need a mobile base at all? In the story of Last Oasis, the Earth no longer rotates around its own axis, so people have to move like nomads to escape the scorching sun. That is why they build wooden walkers on which they carry their belongings.
This story twist and the game principle are well received by the first players. At least if the developers get the server problems under control and fans can really play undisturbed.
Comment by GameStar author Christian Just
A new survival game in early access only triggers a tired smile for me. Somehow I felt that I had seen and played everything a hundred times, and the enthusiasm waned quickly. At Last Oasis I suddenly woke up from my deep sleep.
Wooden 'Mechs reminiscent of artist Theo Jansen's beachbeds? Steampunk elements? A story that sounds really crazy? It all seems pretty new and exciting!
On the one hand, it was disappointing that the game didn't really work in the first few days because the servers were constantly causing problems. On the other hand, I know early access and know that game development and server infrastructure are extremely complex fields, which are often not easy to tackle, especially for smaller teams.
So I stay patient and look where Last Oasis is going. In any case, the concept picked me up. Now I hope that the developers can finally implement their interesting vision.
