Riot Games’ League of Legends team reveals more information about what’s coming challenge system, will go live in-game on May 11 with Patch 12.9. The system brings more than 300 individual challenges to the game, with goals in addition to improving your rank and increasing Champion Mastery scores for those who invest in MOBAs.
The challenge was teased back in the 2022 season stream for the first time, although we didn’t receive many details about the feature other than a vague description of it.
These challenges are designed to provide additional objectives for the game, which can be achieved through various game modes and objectives. Some of these can be obtained in-game, while others require you to collect some cosmetic items outside the game.
A small sample of upcoming challenges have been released ahead of the game’s feature rollout next month, which can be found below:
- Pop music: Make a Poro explode in Smash Bros. and earn the title “Poroyalty”
- give them shells sherry: Take the turret with the Canyon Herald (aka Shirley)
- Rift Valley icon: Get 100 summoner icons and you can become an “Idol”
- stacks stacks stacks stacks: Fully stack Mejai’s Soul Stealer 20 minutes ago
- superior support: Complete your support missions faster than your opponent
- Nash killer: Single kill Baron Nash and you can become a “Baron”
- positive positioning: Dodge towards the enemy to get a multi-kill and shake the “Gorgeous” title
- single carry: Deals more than 40% of raid hero damage in Brawl
You’ll see the titles mentioned multiple times there, these are the rewards you can earn from completing challenges, and there will be additional profile customizations in addition to loading screen banners and emotes.
Personally, I really like this supplement. After playing League of Legends for a while, you feel like you don’t have much reason to try other heroes outside of the typical pool. With these, in addition to winning, you have a chance to have some fun and enter the game with a plan.
Having said that, I do want these to be disabled in ranked mode. Listen, I know it doesn’t hurt to have a turret with the Riftbringer, but I’d appreciate it if I didn’t lose to a vayne flashing to the enemy team or a 0/4 fiddlesticks trying to maximize stacking a mejais. For now, we can only pray and hope!
