Leak gives new information on performance and release

The production of Intel's new graphics cards is to begin in the fourth quarter of 2021. The production of Intel’s new graphics cards is to begin in the fourth quarter of 2021.

A few weeks ago we reported that Intel’s graphics cards might even compete with AMD’s and Nvidia’s current top models. The information comes from the well-known hardware leaker “Moore’s Law Is Dead” and includes not only an assessment of the performance of the Xe-HPG-DG2 graphics card, but also detailed specifications.

A brand new leak from the Europe hardware expert Igor Wallossek (igor’sLAB) now also names very detailed specs and thus underlines the statements of Moore’s Law Is Dead.

Flagship with 4,096 cores

Essentially, Intel is focusing on graphics chips for notebooks, so Igor. Intel is designing the chips so that they can be used for both notebooks and desktop PCs. It is up to the board partners (e.g. Asus and MSI) whether this will ultimately also be used to build desktop graphics cards. The following specifications therefore largely relate to both mobile offshoots of DG2 and desktop variants:

SKU 1

Storage: 16,0 GByte GDDR6 (16 Gbps)

SKU 2

Storage: 12,0 GByte GDDR6 (16 Gbps)

SKU 3

Storage: 8,0 GByte GDDR6 (16 Gbps)

SKU 4 **

Storage: 4,0 GByte GDDR6 (16 Gbps)

SKU 5 **

Storage: 4,0 GByte GDDR6 (16 Gbps)

* Information for mobile graphics chips (high cycle and maximum cycle)

** Exclusively intended for use in notebooks

The specified values for power consumption and clock rates apply to notebook chips. The respective desktop models should draw significantly more power and at the same time also clock higher.

Variant for desktop PCs: Moore’s Law Is Dead states a TDP of 275 watts and clock rates of up to 2.2 GHz for the top model (SKU 1) with 512 execution units (EUs) or 4,096 shader processing units.

Performance, release and prices

According to Moore’s Law Is Dead, the flagship model should outperform the RTX 3060 in terms of performance and be in the area of the RTX 3070. With graphics cards from AMD, this would roughly correspond to the Radeon RX 6700 XT and RX 6800 models.

Limited release period

Little can be said about the prices, especially because it is completely unclear how the situation on the hardware market will have developed up to a possible release. However, Moore’s Law Is Dead estimates the mid-range models to have an MSRP price of $ 200 to $ 300.

Release not before spring 2022: According to Igor, production of the smaller chips for notebooks (SKU 4 and 5) is to begin in calendar weeks 43 to 50, i.e. in the fourth quarter of 2021. The larger chips (SKU 1, 2 and 3) should then follow from week 50 2021 and week 10 2022. A release would therefore probably not be expected until the end of the first quarter of 2022 at the earliest.
